The 400 Series System has been designed with an open systems approach. It incorporates industry standard protocols to ensure maximum compatibility with existing meters and meter reading equipment. Blue Tower's independence from meter manufacturers and hand-held computer providers allows customers to have choices when purchasing or adding on to an existing meter reading system. Blue Tower products' ability to interface easily with other system components means utilities' existing investments in meters, hand-held computers, billing and route management systems are protected.

400 Series System is very competitive compared with other AMR systems. Data
can be collected quickly and efficiently, helping to reduce meter-reading costs.

The meter interface units (MIUs) can be fitted or retro-fitted in minutes to most popular meter types and require no expensive equipment or adjustments. The 400 Series product line is designed for utilities. It operates
in the 434MHz ISM band so is license exempt in most EU countries and much of
the rest of world outside North America. It is comprised of two key elements:
a radio device meter interface unit, Transponder and
a data
collection device - HandTrackIT.
Unlike other systems, there is no requirement for individual interrogation of Transponders so meter reading is quick. Drive -by meter reading is practical at speeds up to 50kph. If the reading software allows, the reading route can be read in any order.
